Elevator Engineering Services
Elevator Engineering Services needed a solution to accurately calculate overtime…Masternaut provided a solution that gave total visibility across the fleet.
Elevator Engineering Services (EES UK) is a leading engineering and manufacturing firm specialising in supporting the lift and elevator industry across the UK. Working with renowned lift industry leaders such as Kone and Otis, EES UK specialises in areas such as lift CCTV and security systems, lighting and electrical equipment, fire regulation compliance, shaft steelwork, entrance-ways and flooring, and lift removal. EES UK has a sheet metal workshop and steel fabrication workshop in Northampton, and is also a member of the global Lifting Equipment Engineers Association and is Safecontractor approved.
The challenge
EES UK Ltd is a Northampton based support provider working UK wide with a team of mobile workers in the Midlands, London and South of England.
With a mobile team based across the country, fleet managers and the HR team rarely saw the drivers in the office, so wanted a system that could effectively monitor their welfare, and also ensure that payroll, hours and timesheets were submitted correctly.
The company also wanted to better understand and improve driver behaviour to create a safer working environment for staff and other road users.
The solution
Masternaut offered EES UK its Masternaut Connect telematics system to provide a complete solution for vehicle tracking, driver monitoring and payroll information.
Masternaut Connect provides EES UK with complete accuracy on timesheets, payroll and overtime. The system cannot be cheated, even if the driver idles for a certain amount of time, ensuring precise timesheets and accurate payment of overtime.
The vans used by EES UK are limited to 70mph, but Masternaut Connect still provides detailed driver monitoring data; alerting fleet managers to any incidents of speeding in lower speed areas, harsh braking, acceleration or cornering.
The outcome
Since implementing Masternaut’s solution, EES UK has seen a range of benefits across its fleet and in various departments of the business.
The operations and fleet teams have seen vehicle idling fall drastically, with instances of idling reduced by 90% in the past year alone feedback given to drivers. Other driver behaviour such as speeding and harsh events are also being closely monitored, with staff given feedback about poor driving behaviour. For the finance team, this has helped to save a significant amount in fuel expenditure.
The HR team now receives accurate timesheets as a result of the Connect system giving detailed times about when staff started and finished work, as well as when they arrived on jobs. This has made the payment of overtime and general payroll more accurate.
EES UK in the future plans to start rewarding staff with bonuses for driving well, which will be based on the score given by Masternaut Connect on their driving.

“Our industry is all about precision and safety – there can be no failures when it comes to elevators. We take the same approach to our mobile workforce. The data Masternaut has been providing has been vital in maintaining a safe, productive workforce on the move. In addition, Masternaut has helped us to extend the life of our vehicles, by helping us to educate our drivers on how to drive them more effectively. We don’t know what we’d do without Masternaut anymore; the service has helped us to create efficiency savings that have made the investment well worthwhile.” Ray Brown, UK Commercial Director at Elevator Engineering Services.
