Maylarch

Maylarch needed to optimise their transport management…Masternaut offered a system that helps demolish fuel costs.

Maylarch began life in 1984 as a demolition contractor and in 1997 formed an asbestos removal department which has retained a full 3 year removal license from the HSE (Health and Safety Executive) since that time. Although the construction industry faces a difficult economic landscape, Maylarch continues to expand, maintaining an ever-increasing client base and order book.

Challenge

Maylarch operates a fleet of around 34 vehicles as part of its asbestos surveying, asbestos removal, waste management and demolition activities. The business operates from two locations in the South and Midlands. Maylarch wanted to optimise its transport management processes and was keen to do this through a tracking-based system.

Solution

As well as being able to report on drivers’ whereabouts, Masternaut offered Maylarch a telematics system which could score drivers based on vehicle economy and driving behaviour. The solution could give each driver and vehicle a rating, allowing management to reward their best drivers. In addition to this, the system also offered the added benefit of knowing the speed limit of every road, making tailored real-time speeding alerts as well as reports far more comprehensive.

Outcome

Since using the Masternaut solution, Maylarch has seen beneficial impact across the business – not only within its fleet department, but also within the areas of finance, HR and compliance. Head office staff can identify driver location at any given time and instantly alert customers of delays where necessary, enabling customers to be kept up to date on the exact time of arrival based on precise information. ID keys also monitor driver working hours for auditing and compliance purposes, and to enabling the efficient handling of mileage and expense claims.

Safety has also improved for both Maylarch employees and others on the road, with the Masternaut solution facilitating a reduction in poor driving habits, in particular speeding. Highly detailed retrospective road speed reports are generated by the technology to highlight potentially unsafe driving by individuals. From these reports, the “Maylarch Safer Driving Scheme” has been proposed to encourage better driving and reward careful drivers. The scheme aims to improve driving standards across the organisation by incentivising good driver practise. Those individuals highlighted by Masternaut reports are also able to receive tailored, one-to-one training programmes to address issues, in addition to disciplinary procedures where necessary. As a result, a 9% reduction in speeding has been achieved.

Quote

We chose Masternaut above other telematics providers because the solution was more user-friendly for our staff and offered far clearer, more detailed reporting – particularly from an environmental and driver behaviour point of view. Since implementing the solution we have seen a wide range of benefits across many areas of the business. Fuel costs have been reduced by 7% in addition to lowered vehicle wear-and-tear thanks to improved driver behaviour, which in turn has led to a reduction in emissions. When it comes to compliance and insurance, we are able to identify both the location and driver of any vehicle at any given time, enabling us to prove or disprove a driver’s involvement in an incident. Finally, driver behaviour monitoring, with a focus on speeding, has helped improve driver safety and awareness of best driving practice amongst our employees – which truly is invaluable.
